Like lots of people, the Covid 19 pandemic presented me with an opportunity to reassess my life and focus on the things most important to me. Working from home allowed me to spend more time with my family and less time stuck in traffic!
After 22 years practicing as a solicitor specialising in family law, I felt I was ready for a change, but I still wanted to be able to put my knowledge and skills to good use.
One day, quite by chance, I shared my thoughts with Nicola Crowther when we were discussing a case. I explained my wish to strike a better work/life balance, whilst still achieving job satisfaction. Having been in a similar position herself 12 years previously, Nicola didn’t hesitate to suggest I become a family mediator.
Upon completing the family mediation foundation training course I knew this was the career for me. The training and support I received gave me the confidence to leave the firm I had been working with for 22 years and I now work full time as a family mediator. I have the pleasure of making my working hours fit around my busy family life and I work from home so I can maximise the time I spend working, instead of commuting.
Helping separating couples to avoid conflict and make lasting arrangements for their future and that of their children, is truly rewarding. Client feedback is always positive and encouraging. I know I am making a real difference to someone’s life, whilst at the same time making a real difference to my own life!
