Clear and compassionate mediation services
At Crowther Mediation, we believe that resolving family disputes shouldn’t have to mean facing the immense stress and expense of a courtroom. We are dedicated to providing clear, compassionate, and affordable mediation services to help your family find a positive way forward.
With you every step of the way
To support families during these challenging times, the Ministry of Justice introduced the Mediation Voucher Scheme. This government-funded initiative is designed to ease the financial pressure on families, encouraging constructive, child-focused resolutions outside of the court process.
If you are considering mediation, this guide outlines how the scheme works, who qualifies, and how Crowther Mediation will support you every step of the way.
What is the Mediation Voucher Scheme?
The Mediation Voucher Scheme provides a financial contribution of up to £500 per family towards the cost of mediation sessions. The scheme specifically aims to help parents and carers reach amicable, collaborative agreements regarding:
- Child Arrangements: Including residency, contact schedules, holiday planning, and co-parenting agreements.
- Child-Related Financial Disputes: Addressing specific financial matters linked to the upbringing and care of your children.
Please Note: The voucher scheme is designed to cover the cost of joint mediation sessions. It does not cover the cost of your initial, individual Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).
Who is eligible for the Mediation Voucher Scheme?
The scheme is specifically allocated to cases involving disputes over children. To qualify for the funding:
- The mediation must actively focus on resolving child-related issues or a combination of child and financial arrangements.
- Both parties must agree to attend and participate in the mediation process.
- Your case must be assessed as suitable for mediation by one of our accredited mediators during your MIAM.
When you choose Crowther Mediation, we handle the entire application process on your behalf. We take care of the paperwork so you can focus entirely on your family.
How the Process Works
Step 1: Book Your MIAM
Your journey begins with an individual Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) with one of our FMCA-accredited family mediators. In this private session, we will discuss your situation, explain how mediation works, and confirm your eligibility for the voucher scheme.
Step 2: We Secure the Funding
Once suitability is confirmed and both parties agree to move forward, the team at Crowther Mediation will submit the voucher application for you.
Step 3: Attend Your Mediation Sessions
The £500 voucher is applied directly to your invoice, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses. Should your family require additional time to reach an agreement, we always provide completely transparent, clear pricing for any subsequent family mediation sessions.
Step 4: Build a Positive Future
With the guidance of our neutral mediators, you will work together to create practical, long-lasting agreements that put your children’s best interests first.
The Benefits of the Mediation Voucher Scheme
- Financial Relief: The £500 subsidy significantly lowers the cost of resolving disputes, making professional mediation highly accessible.
- A Faster Process: Court proceedings can take months—or even years. Mediation with Crowther Mediation allows you to find solutions much more quickly.
- Protecting Your Children: By focusing on collaboration rather than conflict, the scheme helps parents protect their children from the emotional toll of a legal battle.
- Reduced Stress: Our sessions provide a safe, calm environment to speak openly, fostering cooperation rather than division.
Legal Aid vs. The Mediation Voucher Scheme
If you are eligible for Legal Aid, your mediation journey—including your MIAM and all sessions—may be fully funded by the government. Legal Aid can also cover broader financial disputes that do not involve children.
The Mediation Voucher Scheme acts as an excellent safety net for families who do not qualify for Legal Aid but still require financial support to make mediation an affordable reality. During your initial MIAM, we will assess your circumstances for both options to ensure you receive the maximum financial support available.
