Civil Mediation Training – FAQs
We’ve got the answers to your most frequently asked questions. If you do not see a specific question you would like answering, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What qualifications for you need to be a Civil Mediator?
Anyone with a professional background and/or a level three qualification can become a mediator. For example:
- Lawyers
- Therapists/Counsellors
- HR consultants
- Industry experts
- Customer Services
- Graduates
This list is not exhaustive. If you are not sure if mediation training is suitable for you, please contact us and arrange to speak with one of our experienced trainers.
Do you need to be legally trained to become a Mediator?
Having a legal qualification or legal experience is not essential to being a mediator. Clients in mediation should obtain their own independent legal advice. It is not the role of the mediator to provide advice.
The extensive training program at Crowther Mediation provides delegates with sufficient knowledge of the law and the legal framework.
Having skills and experience in negotiating, counselling, customer relations etc are more important to becoming a good mediator.
How much does Mediation Training cost?

How long is the Civil Mediation Training?
The Civil Mediation training course consists of 40 hours of training over five days. There is an additional 8 hours of training (1 day) to become a workplace mediator.
How much does a Civil Mediator earn?
An experienced Civil Mediator can expect to earn in excess of £100,000 per year. But it largely depends on the individual and the work/life balance they are looking to achieve.
What happens once I’ve completed the course?
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates must observe or take part in a number of mediation sessions (approx. 3) to earn 10 observation points. This will allow them to register with the registration body Civil Mediation Council.
A mediator must do at least 15 hours of mediating each year to renew and maintain their accreditation with the CMC.
Do you provide career opportunities once the course is completed?
Delegates can choose to join our register of Civil Mediators. Unlike any other mediation training provider, we have large contracts with organisations both nationally and internationally and we regularly use individuals from our register of mediators to facilitate those mediation contracts.
Because we are not just a mediation provider, but also a mediation practice, we can give our delegates additional opportunities, other training providers can’t.
